17th May: Seizing the day before Elaine got back from accompanying Sarah to
work, Mike and I fell upon the muesli and coffee while musing over our options.
I felt compelled to waste half a day deliberating over whether to get a digital
camera before deciding that what I wanted was a pocket sized digital movie
camera... which I would be able to afford in about a year or so! After borrowing
Elaine's mountainbike and heading out into Brisbane (and getting happily lost
for a while) I met up with brother Roy for a pleasant lunch in the imaginatively
named Brunswick Street Mall. Roy showed me that this part of Brisbane had it's
multicultural roots on display and it certainly seemed like he was more settled
there than in some technology park. After feeding the email monster and getting
some foreign currency Mike and I went back to Elaines to help with her
housewarming party preparations - wow, she doesn't do things by halves! She even
borrowed the anjoining neighbours deck, hung light
s in the trees, brought on the sushi and innumberable hors d'odeurves and found
enough crockery for the hordes that turned out. Great crowd, interesting people
from Elaine's work (travel marketing) as well as old friends. A highlight was
the spontaneous kareoke.. a low-light was Hamish's performance on the small stage.
