Julie  Foudy  #11

        Co-Captain of the
U.S. Women's National Soccer Team

"THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE FOUDY!!!"

-Born on January 23, 1971 in Mission Viejo, CA.

-Julie graduated from
Stanford and majored in Biology in 1993.

-She's the co-captain and an 11 year veteran of the team.

-She broke new ground as an analyst for
ESPN's coverage of the 1998 Mens World Cup and received rave reviews.

-Julie married Ian Sawyers and did not compete in the
'95 world cup because she was on her honeymoon.

-She is the first woman to receive the
Fifa Fair Play award in 1997. She made a well-publicized trip to Pakistan on behalf of her shoe sponsor, Reebok to see for herself that the business of making shoes and soccer balls was not being done through child labor.

-She also did commentary for ESPN during the 1998 NCAA Womens Final Four. And recently the 1999 NCAA Womens Final Four.

-Just recently, Julie was invited to the
State of the Union Address. Hillary Clinton invited her there. Julie got to sit between Chelsea Clinton (who attends Stanford, Julie's alma-mader (spelled wrong?) and Tipper Gore! I like the name "Tipper". That's a cool name, lol.

-Back in high school, Julie also played Volleyball. "We haven't lost this much since high school volleyball"- Julie talking about the Victory Tour losses. Maybe this is why we haven't heard much about Julie's volleyball talent... hehe.... na I'm sure she was very good at volleyball

"The sky is NOT our limit! - Julie Foudy

Julie's childhood-

While growing up, Julie was no average girl! She was so active, more than any of her friends. She would be seen popping wheelies on her Big Wheels, jumping off roofs into swimming her swimming pool, and playing tackle football. She enjoyed boogie boarding in the Pacific Ocean, pitching and catching on a softball team coached by her dad, Jim, and playing soccer! She starting playing at age 6 during recess at Del Cerro Elementary School. In 7th grade her team traveled to Norway to play in the Oslo Cup. Then later went on to the olympic development program.
Julie is the "baby" of the family. She has an older sister Kristin, and two older brothers, Michael and Jeffrey. Though Julie now lives in nearby Laguna Nigel, CA., but is still close to her siblings and her parents, Judy and Jim. Julie was the homecoming queen and during her senior year she made the "1st team" with the USWNT. Also she played for Stanford University. She soon became a superstar, and the rest is all history :) ! Go Julie!

Julie is one of those players ya gotta love. She is so funny with her "No donuts no love". She is awesome in the midfield and I think she runs funny (when she runs she always has her "thumbs up" & swings her arms all over the place). She is definitely one of the coolest on the team my favorite player. I love the whole team though, so it is very hard to have a favorite... anyway, GO JULES! :)

USWNT Bible... The Book Of Foudy (lol!)

(A few years back)... Here's the story about Julie going all the way to Pakistan! She wanted to see for herself that her sponsor, Reebok, was not using child labor, to make soccer balls. First America, and first woman, to ever win the Fifa Fair Play Award. Click the picture above to read the story.
