25 recordings of 8 types, 27 scheduled so far.
Today, 430 miles, .5 miles walked, 11 caches.
I woke up at 3:15 and tried to get back to sleep for an hour, finally gave it up.
ObGoe. Thanks, Andy!
Vegas for me, but not for Thee.
Moe Lane " I interpret Obamas world-wide tour, leaks over gitmo and waterboarding, etc as attempts to distract the public from issues hes clearly losing on."
Judy Blume. Glorp.
I watched a little C-SPAN today while I was waiting for Rich, and I like Lamar Alexander!
So, we got started at 8, me driving. 20 miles down the road we stopped for our first cache. Then onwards and at the rest stop, 96 miles from home, we traded places. Also got another cache. They were having a bus inspection at this rest stop, which was interesting to watch.
Some weeks ago I solved a puzzle which involved triangulation so today we found the final in Fresno. My coordinates were a bit off, but the owner had given me a hint. This cache hasn't been found in over a year. It's in great shape. Then we had lunch at Wendy's in Fresno. (Southwest Taco Salad. Yummy.)
We saw a building that looked like a "goat milk" carton. A sign for the Raisin Bargaining Board Then we stopped at Sun Maid. I had some thought that the raisins were all dried in vast fields. Instead, they're in little piles on paper trays in the vineyards.
We found a really cute cache, a bolt, that didn't look like it had been cut at all. Very very clever. And on to Bakersfield where gas is $2.49/gal if you pay cash.
I remember my Mom telling me about driving highway 99 from Bremerton to San Diego and back many times. She hated it. Two-lane, dangerous, hot, no air conditioning. She stopped one time at a bar and attracted some drunks who were following her. She carried a gun in those days, but fortunately the bad guys eventually stopped. 99 is sure different now, a lot more pleasant. Even 30 years ago you went through every little town, Coalinga and Turlock and Modesto and Madera and on and on. All bypassed now.
We stopped to look at the Tehachapi Loop and ran into some State construction workers. Had a nice conversation and they led us down the back way through the pass. Very scenic. We listened to the lyrics of "Before he Cheats." Quite a change from the songs of my youth, where if you were cheated on you just cried yourself to sleep. (Or the songs where the teen died in a fatal car crash.) We were listening to "Jill." (Bernadette works with "Jack" radio.)
At one of the caches in Barstow, I dropped my book. Argh. I'll have to find one of the others I brought with me. Dinner was so-so at Carrows. I had meat loaf. It was OK.
