November 3: Sniffed the Cork

After church, I was admiring the kindergartener's Q-tip skeletons. I also noted a familiar last name, the next generation attends the grandparents' school!

Then I went to the SPCA Booksale, where I fell off the wagon for sure. Well, they were half price!

  1. Charlotte and Aaron Elkins, NASTY BREAKS. I resisted the golf stories for a long time, because I liked the Gideon Oliver books so much. I was mistaken, because these are great, too. I met him at Bouchercon and we agreed that DARK PLACES was my favorite.
  2. A.J. Holt, CATCH ME.
  3. KILL OR CURE, short stories, ed. by Muller and Pronzini
  4. Bill Pronzini, not a Nameless, WITH AN EXTREME BURNING
  5. Martin Cruz Smith, HAVANA BAY
  6. CARNAGE OF THE REALM, Charles A. Goodrum
  7. Walter Mosley, A LITTLE YELLOW DOG
  8. STRANGER WITH MY FACE, Lois Duncan
  9. Dorothy Eden, YELLOW IS FOR FEAR AND OTHER STORIES
  10. DEAD TO RITES, Sylvia Angus
  11. Kate Wilhelm, DEATH QUALIFIED
  12. A LIFE ON THE ROAD, Charles Kuralt
  13. Ouida Sebestyen, THE GIRL IN THE BOX
  14. THE GOLDEN ORANGE, Joseph Wambaugh. I really liked his early books, but I haven't read any for a long time.
  15. Four by Steve Martini, who is local: CRITICAL MASS
  16. THE LIST
  17. UNDUE INFLUENCE
  18. THE ATTORNEY
  19. THE ROAD FROM COORAIN and
  20. TRUTH NORTH, Jill Ker Conway
  21. David Brock, THE SEDUCTION OF HILLARY RODHAM
  22. A TREASURY OF GREAT MYSTERIES, vol. 2, ed. by Howard Haycraft
  23. James Herndon, HOW TO SURVIVE IN YOUR NATIVE LAND
  24. HAVING OUR SAY, The Delany Sisters. This is the one that got me started. I should have just stopped at that table.
  25. THE MAKIOKA SISTERS, Junichiro Tanizaki
  26. Theodore H. White, IN SEARCH OF HISTORY
  27. THE LEMON JELLY CAKE, Madeline Babcock Smith

Rich watched football, then went out to chop wood, while I went to the play, "The Canoe." It was interesting, though the turkey sandwich I had for lunch worked its tryptomanic magic and I fought sleep at first. It's a legend about a girl and her cat who want to have adventures. Sensei, with the aid of a palm tree and the wind and a turtle, teach her patience, dedication, and that adventures are where you find them.

Slot machines!

Dean Esmay has reasons not to vote. Note, in the comments, who objects to the little test, who thinks stupid people should not be disenfranchised.
