FOLKLORE GROUP BOVEC
Group photo of the Bovec folklore group
taken during the tour in Hungary
The group was founded three years ago, but
it has already proven that there are people in Bovec prepared to
keep the dancing and singing heritage of Upper Soča Valley
alive.
Due to hard life in the valley one hundred
years ago (the description of our dances, songs and costumes are
from that time) men left their homes in order to earn some extra
money. This is the reason the special feature of our dances is
called “v breme” which means that two women dance together in
a pair.
All the costumes and shoes (“žoki” –
special sleepers and “cokle” – clogs) are hand made.
Our dancing programme is joined by “Buške
čeče” – the Bovec girls. They sing songs from Bovec region,
which are sung in the accent of Bovec.
