Residency Policy
Been thinking of becoming a resident at Fort Weyr?  Well here's some information that might help you with that decision.  Our goal is to have a place where folks get along and the roleplay is plentiful.  We try not to ever turn down anyone's request for residency, but we have a request or two before we will resident you permanently at the Weyr.

** If your character is new to Fort Weyr and would like to be a resident, please send a request to *FWStaff, Fort Weyr's Staff mailer on VirtuaPern.  We will contact you and add you as a Guest Resident at the Weyr for 1 month (real life time).  During that time we'll watch to see that you're active (about 2-3 hours a week average), that you're enjoying your time at Fort Weyr, that you like us, and that we like you.  After the month is up and everyone seems happy, we'll make you a permanent resident.  Sometimes we may forget, so don't hesitate to contact *FWStaff and remind us that your month is up.  Also, PLEASE be sure to contact us if you've decided to move to another area.

** If you'd like your character to have been a resident of the Weyr from birth or for some other length of time, then we ask that you contact the staff via *FWStaff as any new resident would.  However, in this case we ask that you provide us with IC background information about your character as well as your OOC reasons behind wanting to be a long standing resident.  You will still be titled a Guest Resident, but please feel free to roleplay your longstanding residency at the Weyr.  When it comes time to make you a permanent resident, remind us if there is a particular title, such as Weyrbrat, that you'd prefer.

** You're a Fort Weyr resident, so now what?  Well, if you think you might be interested in an IC job such as Cook, Steward, Nanny, Guard, Assistant Headwoman, etc., then let us know!  We'll probably want to talk with you some more about why you want the position.  If we feel you need more time at the Weyr, we'll let you know or if there are other reasons we don't think you'd work out in the position, we'll be sure to let you know.  IC positions, especially those considered IC staff (Headwoman and Head Steward), often require more time and game knowledge.

** Now what if you're interested in applying for Search?  You're eligible to apply for Search at Fort Weyr AFTER you've been a resident (or guest resident) for at least 4 Real Life (RL) months and DO NOT hold an IC Staff position.  If you do hold an IC Staff position, you must have been at the Weyr for 6 Real Life months and present for at least one PC Hatching*EXCEPTION: If your character became a resident after having been a Fort Weyr Candidate in the previous Search, the 4 Real Life months rule doesn't apply.

** If you know you want to apply for Fort's next Search even before you become a resident, consider taking up residency at another Hold. Of course, being a Fort Weyr resident won't give you an edge in either Search or Impression.  It does mean that we're more likely to be familiar with your character and your roleplay.  Please be sure to read Fort Weyr's Search Policy.
