Fortune-telling is the practice of predicting the future, usually of an individual, through mystical or supernatural means. It often conflates with the religious practice known as divination, which is the occultic practice of ascertaining information by supernatural means. If a distinction is to be made with fortune-telling, divination has a formal or ritual and often social character, usually in a religious context; while fortune-telling is a more everyday practice for personal purposes.

Common methods used of fortune telling include astrology, tarot card reading (cartomancy), crystallomancy (reading of a crystal sphere), and palmistry (cheiromancy).
