TRANSFORMERS: TALES OF CYBERTRON

HISTORY

Transformers: Tales of Cybertron takes place appropriately enough on the planet Cybertron, the homeworld of the Autobots, a race of initially peaceful mechanoids.

Cybertron itself is actually a living being named Primus, reputed to be leader of a race known as the Light Gods, constructed by the Universe to protect it from Unicron and his followers, mythical beings known only as the Dark Gods.

During the course of a great battle between the leaders of the two factions Primus trapped Unicrons essence inside a metal planet, thus halting Unicrons destruction of the cosmos and stripping him of his near omnipotent powers.

Unfortunately in order to for this to happen Primus sacrificed his own freedom and was trapped in another metal planetoid. An unbreakable mental link was also formed between the pair at this time, thus preventing one from secretly plotting the others final demise without the other knowing and taking action against it.

Although confined, Unicron was still driven by his uncontollable desire to destroy the universe. Using residual powers from his 'god' like days he began to shape his prison into a planet-sized machine of destruction and after further thousends of years it had been further transformed so that Unicron could change his configuration from planet to a humanoid configuration, roughly resembling his prior form. Now once again capable of mass destruction, although on a much more limited scale, Unicron continued in his quest to destroy the universe.

Aware of Unicrons activaties through their mental link Primus also fashioned his prison into a planet, which he called Cybertron and inserted it into orbit around the Alpha Centuri system. Not wanting their conflict to pick up from where it left off Primus refrained from creating a combat configuration for himself and instead created a race of warrior robots to take the fight to Unicron and to destroy his physical form thus preventing him from destroying the Universe. The race was the Decepticons, robot beings who imitated Unicrons transformation abilities by reconfiguring themselves at will into combat vehicles and advanced forms of weaponary. They would also be independant of Primus, thus preventing Unicron from reading their thought and so knowing their plans.

While the Decepticons hunted Unicron down, Primus populated his form with a second race of robots known as the Autobots. The Autobots were peaceful and their lifes were dedicated to science and pleasure. They knew nothing of their creator except what was in their theology and knew nothing of the Decepticons. To prevent Unicron from knowing his location Primus shut himself down only to awaken at pre-planned times to check on his creations.

Millions of years passed and the Autobot population on Cybertron swelled so much that there was an energy-crisis on the planet. Disruptive elements within the society had developed, Autobots who seemed to have more akin to their unknown cousins the Decepticons began to come into power and ruled over their City-States with an iron grip. Events eventually led to the start of the Great War as Autobot science was turned to destructive purposes. The Autobots were cut down rapidly by an army of fellow Autobots who declared themselves no longer to be Autobot, but Decepticon!
