Remarks: Served at Ft. Tilden prior to moving to permanent station at Spring Valley, NY. Always enjoyed the post library and, of course, the beach in the summer. It was murderous in the winter, however, walking guard duty down in sub-freezing cold near the launch area and radar sites. It was an easy jaunt into NYC on the Flatbush Ave. bus and the IRT. Remember the Yankee and Dodger games when Joe D., Jackie R. and Ted W. were winding down their careers. Free passes to Broadway shows at the USO near Times Square, and great jazz on 52nd St. and at the Metropole. Those were good days. Still keep in touch with my pal, Ron Woodworth, who served with me in Charlie Battery. Would be interested in hearing from anyone associated with Battery C, 737th Missile Batallion.

Remarks: I dated and married a gal from Rockaway who worked across the street from the post in Ordnance. Best thing that ever happened to me was getting stationed at Tilden. We were a temporary set up, two missiles above ground and one training missile. We later moved to Middletown, NJ and became Battery B of the 526th.

I lived down on Hanson Place those days, great duty, had an amateur radio station set up in my room in the barracks.

I was an enlisted member of the above unit from Dec. 1949 (at Fort Bliss, TX) thru Nov. 1952 (at Kafertal Barracks, Mannheim, Germany), via Fort Devens, Ayer, MA & Fort Wadsworth, Staten Island, NY. We were attached to the 34th AAA Brigade during this entire time.

I have made many efforts to attempt to contact other men that I served with in the 504th with very poor results. The location services offered by the American Legion have not been been of much assistance.

Can you advise me the procedure to obtain a roster of the unit, the status of the 504th, and if there are any reunion opportunities available? Is there a history of the 504th available?

I remember that we were transported from Ft. Devens to Ft. Wadsworth via canvas covered 6 bys on a below freezing day in January, 1950. Our feet were numb and stuck to the floor metal of the truck. I also recall that the 504th (Major John Connelly, Commanding), worked very closely with the 69th AAA at Tilden.

Remarks:I was stationed at Ft. Tilden to do my OJT (on the job training)for 8 months. I lived in Flatbush Brooklyn. I was moved to the assembly crew during my tour at Ft. Tilden. After my OJT I was sent to Alaska for 2 years.
