As a child I always wanted a pekingese, I thought that they were so beautiful. Finally in 1981, Randy, my husband, bought me one. She was a red and white parti, her name was Prissy. She was 1 1/2 years old when we purchased her. She had a very sweet personality and was so lovable. She fit into my family immediately, my 3 children loved her. We were in pekingese heaven.
After having her for a while, I decided that everyone should know the joy of owning a pekingese, so I decided to start breeding them. I found a lady that was raising them and she bred Prissy for pick of the litter. She had to have an emergency C-Section because she wouldn’t push. With it being at night I had to travel over 30 miles to the nearest vet that would work after-hours. She had 6 beautiful puppies. The vet kept Prissy for 2 days but sent the puppies home with me. With 6 crying puppies, we rushed back home to put them on a heating pad, getting up every 2 hours to feed them. Finally after 2 days, we picked up Prissy, I was excited to show the puppies to her, she wanted nothing to do with them, but working with her, she started letting the puppies eat. Then horror struck! Prissy’s milk was bad and the puppies started dying. I only saved one, which went as pick of the litter. I was crushed. I never bred Prissy again.
But still determined to raise them I purchased several more. I was in puppy heaven. Found good homes for them and was excited that I made is possible for other people to know the joy of owning a pekingese. I really thought that I had great quality pekingese.
After moving to a city and seeing better quality pekingese, I knew that I had to improve my lines. I started reading pekingese books and studying the lines. So I went out and purchased better quality pekingese to breed. What a difference!
Today I live in Carencro, LA, on 8 acres. We have built a large kennel that consist of a 24’ X 30 ‘ building with 16’ X 30’ awnings with skylights. There are 20 3’ X 20’ chain link runs with automatic feeders and waterers. There are 2 roll up door to allow fresh air flow along with 6 ceiling fans. For easier cleaning there is a water purged drainage system which leads to a aerated septic system. A new addition was just added which is a 42’ x 56’ exercise pen. The puppy room is attached to my house. With this set up, it allows me more time to play with my pekingese.
After over 20 years of breeding, learning, and trial and error, I have improved the quality of my pekingese and will continue to do so. My hope is to produce great Champions one day. I will continue to strive for the best pekingese and will continue to breed for the betterment of this great and beautiful breed.
