| FMA Youth Attends Summer Leaders Seminar at West Point
Cadet Angelica Lackey, a senior at Forestville Military Academy, was one of 800 high school students invited to participate in the 2005 Summer Leaders Seminar (SLA) held annually in June 2005 at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y. Cadet Lackey was invited to the workshop based on a competitive basis using her academic, athletic, and extracurricular information. The week-long program consisted of academic workshops, where Cadet Lackey was able to choose four of sixteen possible classes in various disciplinary taught by Academy instructors. Cadet Lackey participated in military training, physical fitness training, and intramural athletics under the leadership of West Point cadets, who acted as squad leaders for all aspects of the program. Cadet Lackey lived in the cadet barracks and ate in the cadet dining facility at Washington Hall. While her schedule was packed with a variety of educational activities, there was also time for fun, including tours of West Point and the West Point Museum. The mission of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point is to educate, train, and inspire the Corps of Cadets so that each graduate is a commissioned leader of character committed to the values of Duty, Honor, Country; professional growth throughout a career as an officer in the Unity States Army; and a lifetime of selfless service to the nation. Cadet Lackey proudly represented Forestville Military Academy. |
