Nailsworth (CC) = service at Christ Church
* = joint service with Christ Church members
Mums and Toddlers group (now named the Little Angels) meets at Nailsworth Church at 9.30 am on Fridays 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th of May.
The next PCC meeting will be on Monday 17 May at 8.00 pm in the Village Hall.
We are most grateful that Sheila Hill
has joined the Churchyard Mowing team.
She has already made a huge improvement on the south side of the
building.
The
Vicar’s Letter
Dear Friends,
On Easter Monday I flew out with a friend to Florida and then we drove down to Naples where he has an apartment in the middle of a golf course overlooking the 12th hole - a par 4 where I did on one occasion hit the green in two but then proceeded to 3-putt as usual - and I stayed with him for a week. We played golf on each of the next seven days and I left him there for a further six weeks. I had a brilliant time and we talked about many things - but most of the talk was about golf !
This time nearly two thousand years ago, I am sure that all the talk would have centred around the proclamation of the Kingdom of God, which according to the testimony of the first three Gospels, was Jesus’ central message to his disciples. He had done this for the three years when he had been with them, but now whenever he was with them in his resurrected state, he again tried to explain all that he had been teaching them with an increasing sense of urgency.
He knew that they would need additional
help and he promised to ask his Father to send them the Holy Spirit, who would
remind them of all that he had taught them and would enable the Father
and Son to live in them so that they
would become increasingly like him.
He promised that if they believed in him, as the Spirit matured it
would empower them in such a way that “
they will also do the works that I do and, in fact, will do greater works than
these” - John 14 v 12.
How they must have marvelled as they saw the Risen Lord teaching, eating, and laughing with them, and as they recalled the sight of their Crucified Saviour of only a few weeks before. But they were still unable to comprehend the full extent of what he was saying until the promised Holy Spirit gave them that special insight on the day of Pentecost.
How they must have talked and reminded each other during every waking hour - and then dreamt about it through the night - of all that he had said and done. Some of their talk must have been about what the future held in store for them. Do you think that they were at that time in the state that we are called to be in - loving God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength ?! Does this mean that our faith should be more important than our family, home, work, holidays or hobbies like golf ?!
I pray that you will all look forward to the celebration of the day of Pentecost and, in the meantime pray for a new and fresh filling of the Holy Spirit for us all so that we may together embrace all that our Lord Jesus promised to all who believed in Him.
Alleluia ! Christ is Risen.

Reverend Stephen Earley
Developing
connections - the parish and Kingscote church
We on the PCC have been mulling over several problems. How can we make our services more accessible to more parishioners and how can the church generally play a more useful part in parish life ?
A group of regular members of the church congregation met recently with Stephen the Vicar and Guy Bridgewater, a Diocesan advisor, to work out a few ideas we could try. We don’t feel that we are sufficiently in touch with the needs and views of the community, so it is difficult for the church to be relevant locally.
To do this, we are carrying out an informal survey, asking the following questions:
1. What do you see as the three best things about living in the Newington/Bagpath/Kingscote parish ?
2. What do you see as the three greatest problems of living in this parish ?
3. What, if anything, could the parish church do to help ?
4. How is Kingscote Church relevant to you ?
5. Any other comments ?
All responses will be treated in total confidence.
Passive consultation never seems to produce results, so we hope you won’t mind a more direct approach ! We shall try to contact as many parishioners as possible in the next couple of months to get your views.
The final step will be to hold a ‘Strategy Day’ on 3 October which will be an open meeting when we try to bring all of these interesting opinions together, and to give ourselves some priorities for the future.
We are really hoping that this seems a good idea to the parish residents; it should be a stimulating exercise and at least be very good for getting to know more of the people who live here.

The next meeting will be on Tuesday 11 May, 7.45 for 8.00 pm, at the home of Georgina Harford when we will be discussing the theme A Pattern for Dynamic Prayer. The text to be used is Matthew 6 verses 7 to 15 :
When
you pray, do not use a lot of meaningless words, as the pagans do, who think
that God will hear them because their prayers are long.
Do not be like them. Your
Father already knows what you need before you ask him.
This, then, is how you should pray:
Our Father in
heaven:
May your holy
name be honoured;
may your
Kingdom come;
may your will
be done on earth it is in heaven.
Give us today
the food we need.
Forgive us the
wrongs we have done, as we forgive the wrongs that others
have done to
us.
Do not bring us
to hard testing,
but keep us
safe from the Evil One.
If
you forgive others the wrongs they have done to you, your Father in heaven
will also forgive you. But if you
do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive the wrongs you have
done.
All are most welcome to join us in our informal discussion of these and related issues.

All residents of the parish are invited to take part and there will be some walkers from Nailsworth and Horsley joining us also - the more the merrier.
There are lots of paths in the
