At a recent service
one of our visiting clergy reminded us that we should now be planning how we are going to work with our new vicar
to boost the witness and worship of the church in this parish. Perhaps the place to start is with the
official diocesan statement of what we are about:
Mission statement of the Diocese of Gloucester
·
To worship God in response to his love revealed in
Jesus Christ.
·
To proclaim the gospel.
·
To present the challenge of God’s Kingdom.
·
To celebrate with those who rejoice and weep with those
who suffer.
·
To encourage Christian Unity.
As a missionary diocese our aims are to:
Encourage in every community lively weekly worship which is accessible
and outward looking.
Select,
train and support sufficient authorised ministers to encourage all Christian people in the church’s ministry in the world.
Help
make disciples who grow in faith, so that the life of Christ is made known in word and action.
Strive
for justice and peace in local, county and national life, in collaboration with people of good will.
Work
with others across the whole educational enterprise, to ensure a living Christian presence and contribution.
Encourage
the creative use of our church buildings.
Respond
to God’s unconditional love by the costly giving of time, gifts and resources.
Release the full potential of the Body of Christ (in layman’s terms this refers to the church as an organisation) through collaborative working and
decision
making.
Celebrate
our unity in Christ by working and worshipping with other churches locally and throughout the world.
Review and renew Diocesan structures, communications and attitudes to en- sure that they serve this mission.

Grumbolds Ash Group
The weather stayed nice for our trip to Snowshill Manor on the 6th of June. We were eight in number and all enjoyed the day out. All of the antiques were British and hand-made; lots of clocks-most of them still going, and a marvellous collection of cycles including a Post Office delivery vehicle. One could spend a whole day there and still not see everything. Well worth a visit !
Our next event will be a narrow-boat trip on the 30th July. We meet at the Village Hall at 11.00 am.

Jubilee Day
The parish celebrated the Queen’s Golden Jubilee with a memorable day of events on Saturday 1st of June. The programme commenced with a children’s party in the afternoon, including treasure hunts, magician, games and party tea. The attendance of 41 made it the best attended children’s party for many years. All those who saw the beautifully decorated hall and tables will realise the huge effort which went into staging the party. Our thanks go especially to Jilly Beresford, Louise Marsh and Alice Cooper for all their work.
The evening commenced with the Jubilee Barbecue, kindly hosted by Robert and Rebecca Whitworth on the lawns of Kingscote House. The sun continued to shine through a summer evening and over 100 enjoyed the wonderful food and drinks served for us by Ben and Cherry Bennett, David and Kay Brightley, and our hosts Robert and Rebecca. Many thanks are also due to Sebastion Cooper and Richard Dalziel for running the Monarchy Quiz, to Mrs Shorey for running yet another successful raffle, this time on the microphone, and to those who donated the numerous prizes.
The evening concluded in Parsonage Close with a festive bonfire, sparkling wines, much merriment and a loyal toast. Many thanks to Tim Sage for building the fire, to Robert Whitworth for proposing the toast and to Graham Nichols for the use of his land.
Finally thanks are also due to Stephanie Ward at the Hunters Hall for the licence, to Mike Waite for the sound system, to Sam Pride for the music, to Irene Sage, Jutta Tubbs, Kay Brightley, Louise Marsh, Cherry Bennett and Alice Cooper for donating the delicious salads and last but not least to Alan Jackson for taking all of the rubbish to the tip on Sunday morning.
The day generated a profit of £404-30 which will be used to fund urgent maintenance work on the Village Hall. This healthy figure could not have been achieved with out the assistance of the Parish Council who gave funds for the event insurance and the portable loo. Accounts for the event have been produced by David Brightley and are posted on the parish notice boards.

Jubilee Day Commemorative Video and Photographs
Tim Sage, who has recently re-launched his video filming
activities, will be producing cassettes featuring most of those who attended on
the day. This will be a wonderful
memento, particularly for parents and grandparents with children at the
party. These videos will be for sale at
£10 of which £2 will go towards Village Hall maintenance funds. Please place your orders with Tim.
Angela Wooldridge has photos on CD of the children’s parties
and the evening barbecue. These may be
borrowed and copied to file, and donations to the Village Hall would be
appreciated.
Harry Tubbs is taking orders for prints of the group
photographs taken at the commencement of the afternoon activities, with the
children in ‘as new’ condition. Sample
prints may be viewed by arrangement (Tel:
860 194).
Parish Council News
The council is still looking for a Clerk to replace Bob, who resigned in January. Anyone considering applying for this important and interesting community role is welcome to contact Bob to discuss the duties involved.
Brian Hillam
Cakes for Gates
Brian Hillam has very kindly renewed the Church Lych Gates using oak and copying the design of the existing gates. Obviously we have to cover Brian’s costs, and PCC members are planning to sell cakes and plants at the Hunter’s Hall (with Stephanie’s kind permission) on busy, sunny (?!) weekends this summer. It would be greatly appreciated if any parishioners can make cakes, store them in the freezer for the above mentioned event, and notify Sue Bradley-Jones of their availability (Tel: 860 663). It is very nice to see the Lych Gate, which is such a prominent feature in Kingscote, graced again with new gates and we thank Brian most sincerely for this magnificent contribution.
