Beekeeping
Welcome to the wonderful world of beekeeping. Enjoy.
What is a honey bee?
Apis Mellifera is the scientific name for the honey bee. The honey bee has many important functions in nature. Honey bees work together in colonies and are capable of producing enoumous amounts of honey and are extremely necessary in pollinating the world's food crops. Without the pollinating services of honey bees, the crops that you and I eat and enjoy would be so slim that we would not be able to produce enough food to supply the world's needs. Honey bees can be found in fruit trees, alfalfa fields, corn fields, clover patches, trees (sourwood, tulip poplar, maple, locust), sumac, wildflowers. They can even be found in your own yard and garden helping pollinate your crops and flowers that produce and bloom so beautifully in the spring and summer. So, if you see a honey bee, just remember how important this wonderful little creature is in our lives.
