Resources help children learn about the USA. DLTK's President's Day Activities Learning Abilities Books (Vocabulary Page) This link helps them learn the history and meaning of the National Anthem. The site points out that children sometimes sing familiar songs with no understanding of important words. For example, remember Ramona's dawnzer in Ramona the Pest by Beverly Cleary? She asked her sister to turn on the dawnzer to get some light. She had been singing everyday in school, "Oh say, can you see by the dawnzer, lee light." Mrs. Bonzer's First Grade Friends This site has some patriotic links and activities for first graders. Mrs. McGowan's First Grade has many resources including a page titled We're Proud to be Americans! White House Kids Home Page Math challenge, my American Journal, Parents' and Teachers' guide, and more. More links will be added. |
