By running the appropriate software, this system can adapt to a variety of human activities, thereby assisting humans. The flexibility of changing the software is another advantage. It incorporates a time division multiplexed (TDM) – distributed processing unit (DPU) actuating joints based on polar coordinate systems as an advancement over the existing Cartesian co-ordinate system. An INFRA RED transceiver module which can detect as well as track objects in the vicinity of the robot is also incorporated. The project is built from scratch using basic electromechanical components. For instance, instead of purchasing ready made actuators, they were home built using electric motors, gears (both worm and cog ), metallic and plastic material. The system is built around discrete components instead of using a MICROCONTROLLER; this ensures a higher efficiency, though the construction is more tedious. This system employs polar coordinate system to emulate humans as opposed to traditional robots. The closed loop feedback ensures better accuracy and power rather than the traditional feedforward system of stepper motors. It also has matrix display for the purpose of illustrating both graphical and textual information. Economic benefits • it extends human potentials at work using its tele-presence capability to aid work supervision • The work output of the system is predictable; therefore easy economic evaluation of its effect in an industry can be made. • The multiplexing ability allows a great number of such robots to share a common unit of expensive resources in order to save cost. Environmental benefits • a means of improving ergonomics at work is achieved by the reduction in the repetitive, mental and physical strain, it can offer, at work . • it can maintain efficient operations even in those environments under which man can not work properly • it can respond to stimuli that are beyond human range. Societal benefits • it can be used in the military defence, due to its tracking capabilities and response, to reduce lethal exposure of humans (soldiers) at war front. • It contributes to societal health promotion and work place safety by reducing such things as the carpal tunnel syndrome, repetitive stress injury, lumbago and neck shoulder pain, which are caused as a result of incessant movement of the hand. THE COST OF THE COMPONENTS USED IN THIS PROJECT IS ABOUT $ 62.85 Since the system is home-built, the workmanship depends on the individual.
