Taking Lives....
Intial Warner Bros. publicity sounded promising, the official website looked cool (although it did take an age to load) and Kiefer Sutherland as Pyschological thriller sound like they should go together like bread and butter, but, reviews i've read have extinguished my intial enthusiam, have a read and you might see why. Reviews aren't good. But all the same it's out late april I believe.

The whiplash surprise ending leads to a series of fumbled thriller clichés, from implausible identity swaps and squealing car chases to the inevitable "seven months later" postscript. The final surprise here is an entirely unhappy one. In the film's unconvincing denouement, Illeana Scott is no longer a fantastic screen presence, but merely a stock character letting an action movie have its way with her.

'TAKING Lives" is smarter than your average serial-killer movie, thanks to unusually fleshed-out characters inhabited by a high- pedigree cast.
They add a deeper, psychological dimension to an unpredictable, twisty plot peppered with a number of genuine jolts - including a particularly ghastly shocker toward the end that drew horrified gasps from a recent preview audience.

Working with the same production designer and cinematographer he used on the brilliant but underseen The Salton Sea, director D.J. Caruso spins a downright wicked thriller so tense it's guaranteed to scare you out of your seat at least once. If only the ending had maintained the integrity (rather than just the violence) of the opening scene, audiences would remember Taking Lives for the right reasons.

The movie voids a lot of good will with a cheesy ending. This is just the kind of denouement I was hoping Taking Lives wouldn't sink to, yet it does.
