Rizal should never go out of style. In
fact, remembering Rizal is the call of our time. Let us re-introduce Rizal to the youth of today; let us introduce him to ourselves again.
His patriotic ideals can help save our nation from the moral abyss that we are in.
As leaders, both in business and in government, and as Filipino citizens, let us imbue ourselves with Rizal's thoughts
and spread them around like sunshine, bringing hope to those we work with in this arduous task of rebuilding lives and communities in
affected areas.

Our people needs inspiration
“As business leaders, let us imbue ourselves with Rizal's thoughts and spread them around like
sunshine, bringing hope to those we work with in this arduous task of rebuilding lives and communities in affected areas,” RC Biak-na-Bato
centennial president Efren O. Docena said referring to calamity areas left by the recent typhoons. Rotary Clubs actively raise donations in
cash and in kind for the typhoon victims. He enjoins Rotarians to participate in this coming December 30 symposium.
The recent typhoons that struck our land created havoc and left trails of devastation behind. It puts the spirit of
our people to a great test again. With their homes and sources of sustenance destroyed, and the means of transport and commerce paralyzed in
certain places, some of our countrymen face the hard task of building again.
With its fiscal problems, national government has to confront this additional economic burden. In the face of
hopelessness and despair, what our people need is inspiration to motivate them towards united action.

Patriotism as an antidote to graft and corruption
The alarming rise in graft and corruption in the country, especially in the highest levels of civilian government and
the military, which are supposed bastions and guardians of public trust, is partly due to the erosion of patriotism and nationalist ideals
among the Filipino citizenry and public servants.
The Rotary international movement, which is now celebrating its 100 years of existence as a service organization, is
also committed in upholding high ethical standards in the conduct of business and professions of its members worldwide.
Docena agrees that the revival of our familiarity with the life and works of Rizal, and identification with his
ideals, aspirations and love of country to which he offered his life, can help save our nation from the moral abyss that we are in. It can
help restore high ethical standards in business and government.

celebrated as an overseas Filipino worker, making it an unprecedented historic event.
