The
Lawn man
"Spiritual
Sunglasses"
Featured at SIWWIS #4
Ah, Glad I got your ear,
Child, It’s time for you to hear,
A story of love, care, and compassion,
About a rich man’s son.
Once upon a time,
Yes, this is a story, but it will rhyme.
This son, who needed not work,
Took to the streets to attend to peoples hurt.
See, through his eye,
Each person was a house,
With lawns, trees, and bushes by,
Them, with driveways which none could surpass,
Besides, they were invisible because of unkempt grass.
He went from house to house,
Looking at the unkempt lawns,
Seeing as they were once beautiful,
And now their looks had gone down south.
This hurt the lawn man very
much,
Law prohibited the house from cutting its own grass,
It was an expensive task,
And they were beginning to take short cuts.
Some houses were edged, and
not cut,
Others were cut, and not edged.
Some had trimmed bushes,
Some lawns had never been touched.
How unpleasing in the site of
this master yards man.
He made his way to the door,
No tools in hand, seemingly none in store,
He offered to cut the grass,
And the home began rebelling from the task.
How much, the home asked,
Free The Lawn Man replied,
How will you profit, he was asked,
Tears rushed to The Lawn Mans eyes.
I am poor, and unable to pay,
Come back, and we’ll try some other day,
Don’t waste your time, here you cannot stay.
Man, move out of my face, with me you don’t play.
The Yard Man wanted each home
to look as it was Designed, So He stood His ground and
spoke life to the home’s
mind. I fought through the weeds,
high grass, and untrimmed
bushes
and trees,
Just to get to your door and now you reject me?
The lawn care is free,
Nothing you will owe me.
No machines, no noise, no sweat on your part,
All you must do is allow me to clean up your yard.
THE HOME SAYS
Cut the grass,
Trim the hedges,
And trim the trees.
I need your help for I have failed trying to get this yard
clean.
The yard Man asked to come
into the home,
The Yard Man came in, the
home was a mess.
There was no place to sit down, no place for Him
to rest.
He began to straighten up the place,
He continued cleaning until everything was straight.
The inside, spotless, the
Yard Man prepared to leave,
I’m gone my Friend He said, as He walked to the door.
What about my lawn, you said you would do it for free,
It is done, he replied,
You cut the grass by cleaning the inside.
He came in to my home, had a seat,
He opened the door, and now the world he could see,
Even thought the Yard Man
left,
The lawn mans words remained.
And every day He would recall the Yard Mans
words,
And the yard would cut just the same.
He would constantly clean the
inside,
Just as he was told to do,
And now he wants to pass the same instructions
to you.
