| There's a strong overlap between symptoms of low thyroid, hypothyroidism, and symptoms of fibromyalgia. Many of the fibromyalgia symptoms, not all -- hypothyroidism does not cause severe pain. And, unlike fibromyalgia, hypothyroidism has a treatment that is successful for almost everyone. This part of my Web site is devoted to the thyroid and hypothyroidism. Explore Diagnosis to find out how I was diagnosed. What Is It describes hypothyroidism, its symptoms, diagnostic tests, and Web sites for further research. I am keeping a record of changes I am experiencing since starting on medication for hypothyroidism (synthetic thyroid hormone) in the Thyroid Journal. If you want to explore this avenue for yourself, you may find surprising results. I did. If you are like me, you'll need both the standard thyroid test (TSH) and a more sensitive test (TRH) to receive the diagnosis. My standard test showed a normal result both this year and one year ago. Fortunately, this year I was referred to a specialist who knew to search further. By employing the TRH test he made the diagnosis. I have hypothyroidism and I am benefiting from the medication. You may need to search for a doctor that will do the TRH test. But if you ultimately find you have hypothyroidism, it will be worth it. |
