Sharing Our Stories, Celebrating Our Triumphs

Welcome to FM Alive.  When I started to create this web site, my idea was to create a web site about the untold story of living with fibromyalgia.  That was in August of 2000.  I wrote journal entries about this experience from August through October.  In November I found out that I have hypothyroidism, a condition that is treatable.  Many of its symptoms overlap with fibromyalgia symptoms (except severe pain, of course...).  So now my site is about living with fibromyalgia and about recovering from hypothyroidism and the changes it brings.

On this web site you will find a Journal sharing my life with fibromyalgia and the changes that are occurring as I am treated for hypothyroidism.  You'll also find information about the thyroid gland and hypothyroidism.

At this point I don't quite know what the future brings.  I have looked a lot of places for information about fibromyalgia and hypothyroidism and found very little.  I am sharing my journey at this web site.  I also invite you to share your journey about fibromyalgia plus any other conditions you may have.  This web site will be the richer for it.

Why Did I Create This Site?

I believe there are many aspects of living with fibromyalgia that are not well understood.  For example, I must pay attention to how I move and to my activity level in order to maintain by current level of health.  I can say this, but do people that do not have fibromyalgia really know what this means?  Does a doctor or health care provider really understand?  By writing down how I spend my days, I document what it is like for me to live with fibromyalgia.  For example, recently I took a Friday afternoon off to entertain my two nieces.  In order to have sufficient energy, I went to bed early every night that week.
I want to document my daily activities to illustrate the many things I do to live with fibromyalgia.
I want to share your stories of living with fibromyalgia, stories about any aspect that you wish to share.

This is the site about both the difficulties of living with fibromyalgia and the triumphs.  It is important to me not to gloss over either one.  They are all real.  Sometimes the difficulties are prominent, and even feel overwhelming.  Other times fibromyalgia slips into the background.
