With Vin Diesel starring, Rob Cohen directing, and alot of fast and furious cars, this trio packs a powerful punch. In 2001, The Fast and the Furious, the first outing for this trio, opened with $40 million and went on to gross $144.5 million, spawning a sequel minus Diesel and Cohen. For their second outing XXX, it opened with $44.5 million and already has a sequel in the works. Mr. Vin Diesel is some what of a commodity these days. It seems everything he touches turns to gold or spawns a sequel. On the |

| horizon, he has Knockaround Guys in the fall, a film formerly known as El Diablo due in March, which is already set to have a sequel, and of course XXX 2. All this comes with little to none of a track record at the movies. With his little movie history, Diesel has been a blind man in Pitch Black, with a sequel planned, a soldier in a small role in Saving Private Ryan, and a voice in The Iron Giant. So with much to come for the young actor, its safe to say Mr. Vin Diesel has arrived. And so the box office went as this. XXX came in number one this weekend opening to $44.5 million. In second was Signs, holding on with another impressive $29.4 million totaling $117.7 milliion for its second week. Third was Spy Kids 2 opening to a modest $16.7 million and totaling $25 million in its first five days. A year ago, Spy Kids |

Just think it is $40 million away from being the highest grossing Austin Powers movie. And rounding out the top five this week was Clint Eastwood in Blood Work which opened with a respectable $7.3 million. As for next week. Don't expect much as the Summer movie season has unofficially come to an end. Now movie goers will be subjected to the leftovers. This week we have two. Eddie Murphy in space starring in The Adventures of Pluto Nash and surfing babes in Blue Crush. Expect a repeat of this week, as Vin Diesel will take on his ex-girlfriend, his girlfriend from The Fast and the Furious that is, who stars in Blue Crush. But sorry Michelle Rodriguez, it will be another "cocked Diesel" weekend. |
