| Austin Powers had the force this weekend. He managed to have the third biggest opening of the summer and the best opening ever for July. This was supposed to be the last movie of the series, but now things have changed. With these numbers Mike Myers himself is talking about Austin Powers 4. Who can blame him since the Austin Powers movies managed to gross more with each sequel. In 1997, Austin Powers opened with $9.5 |

| million totaling $53.8 million. In 1999, The Spy Who Shagged Me opened with more than five times as much as its predecessor with $57.4 million and totaled $205.9 million. Now the third movie, Goldmember, has opened with a surprising $73 million totaling $76.6 million for its first week. So why not continue the series. Austin Powers in Goldmember opens at the top of the box office this weekend with $73 million blowing the competition away. In second, running far behind Austin, was Road to Perdition with its third week of grossing over $10 million. It grossed another $11.1 million this weekend and totaled the week with $65.6 million. Third was Stuart Little 2 with a modest second week, with another $10.6 million totaling $34.7 for the week. In fourth, is another sequel that will not surpass the original. Men in Black 2 started off with good intentions but fell fast down the charts. Although totaling $173.3 million and being the third biggest movie of the summer, its mere $8.7 million take for this week does not show much more staying power, let alone power enough to beat the original's $250 million. Rounding out the top five this week is K19 The Widowmaker, with $7.2 million and totaling a disappointing $28.9 million. What does the future hold for next week? Read the Signs. M. Night Shalayman's return after two years, gives us many sightings and signs of his alien invasion. Along with Mel Gibson's sure fire for number one, The Master of Disguise, a kid friendly movie featuring an identity changing secret agent starring Dana Carvey opens this week. Also in theaters this week in limited theaters is Martin Lawrence Live in Runteldat. Next week we will see the signs, at least that's what Mr. Shalayman is hoping. |
