| This movie can not be called a complete failure. Despite having a cast of practically unknowns 'Blue Crush' still came up with $14.1 million. Although it did not open at number one, the girls of summer still have something to smile about. On a small budget this movie should pull out a modest hit and possibly make these girls, made up of Kate Bosworth, Michelle Rodriguez, Mika Bookem, and Sanoe Lake, into stars. One girl in particular is already climbing her way into stardom. With her starring role in Girlfight, and a role in big budget actioners Resident Evil and The Fast and the Furious, Michelle Rodrguez seems on her |

| way to becoming the next big thing. Plus a little bit of playing time on the big screen goes along way for all of these girls' careers. So number one for the second week in a row went to Vin Diesel. I don't know if it was the appeal of the star or for the his movie's misleading title. Either way XXX scored another $22.1 million this week with a total thus far of $83.9 million. This is actually better than last year's The Fast and the Furious which had a $20 million second week and then totaled $77 million. In second was Signs once again with a close $19.3 million totaling $150.5 million. This movie is likely to be Shayalaman's second movie of three big budget films to surpass the $200 million mark. Third was Blue Crush opening to $14.1 million. Not bad for a few virtually unknowns. In fourth was Spy Kids 2, still holding on with $11.5 million now totaling $45.6 million, not likely to surpass the original but still there is a planned 3rd installment to close the series. Rounding out the top five this week was Austin Powers in Goldmember with $8.7 million totaling $183.8 million. This movie does have potential to be the highest grossing Austin Powers movie. And where might you ask is the other opener of the week. Mr. Eddie Murphy must have really been on Pluto because no one on Earth has seen him, especially in his new movie The Adventures of Pluto Nash, which scored a weak $2.1 million this week. Looks like Eddie will have to make another Nutty Professor movie. |

| Don't expect much from the weeks to come. The leftovers have arrived. Now we get to be subjected to cheap laughs and little thrills as hollywood's biggest movie season comes to a close. This coming week we have three openers, but even the producing companies have not put much effort into advertising of these new comers, as audiences might not even know or see much about these movies before they open. This week we have Al Pacino in Simone. He is a TV producer who creates an actress, who is digitally realistic and fools the world into believing it is a real person. Mathew Perry and Elizabeth Hurley team up in Serving Sara. And Wesley Snipes and Ving Rhames square off as two boxers who go head to head in Undisputed. All in all it looks like a very unexciting weekend at the movies as movie goers will probably steer clear of the new and stick with old favorites adding more to the already huge blockbusters of the summer. | ||||||||||||||||||
