| The cast was all present for the second installment of The Lord of the Rings, as the sequel soared to record numbers this week. The Two Towers grossed $25 million more than the original in it's opening weekend. As the more exciting and more action packed second movie entertains at the cineplexes, we wonder what is to come of the cast of young actors who have yet to prove themselves at the box office. Elijah Wood and Sean Astin have not been hot since they were children. Now Elijah 21 and Astin 30 years of age the two actors are far from their childhood days. To discredit the two would be a horrible loss of talent, given that Elijah has made a name for himself by starring along side of Kevin Bacon, Meryl Streep in low profile roles and Astin who has his own movie producing company called Lava Entertainment. I do expect some good things to come of Elijah Wood, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind with Jim Carrey, but Astin's future is still undecided, as The Goonies 2 looks to be nowhere even close to being made. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| Elijah came ready to fight for the top spot this weekend and so he did as his movie scored number one. |

| So The Two Towers was number one this week by a long shot. It scored $61 million for this weekend alone and now totals $101.5 million thus far. Second was Two Weeks Notice opening with $14.4 million. An impressive opening considering its competition. Third was Maid in Manhattan with another $11 million, totaling a weak $35.5 million. I guess it just goes to show that we're not fooled by the rocks that J.Lo's got, she still can't fill the seats in the box. Fourth was a weak opening for Gangs of New York, with $9.1 million. Let's just hope it does better next week when it opens 600 more theaters, since it did take two years to ever be released. Rounding out the top five was a little movie called Drumline, who is making a name for itself with $7.6 million this weekend totaling $22.8 million. So the beat goes on. Whats up for next week? We have a con artist and a puppet artist, with Leo Dicaprio and Tom Hanks in Spielberg's Catch Me If You Can, based on a true story. Also we have Pinocchio, based on so many previous movie adaptions. But when in doubt bet on the 'Lord' for next weeks top spot once again for this Christmas holiday week. |
