Flying V Equestrian Vaulting Team!
"Gymnastics on Horseback"

Flying V boasts only the 7th competitive vaulting team registered with the NSW Vaulting Council. It is run as a separate club, affiliated with both the Council and Flying V Equestrian. Even if you never join the club to compete, vaulting provides a challenging, exciting sport for all ages to enjoy. Flying V is now part of the Hunter Valley Vaulting Team, since we moved from Canberra. If anyone wants to take over the Canberra team, they are most welcome, please email for details.
So, what is vaulting? (We hear that every day.) It is a combination of the beauty and grace of gymnastics and dance, and the gentle art of riding, similar to what you would see at the circus. It is performed individually, in pairs, and in teams of up to 8. It is a beautiful sport to watch. And guess what? It's SAFER, CHEAPER and MUCH MORE EXCITING than regular riding lessons!

For the very low fee of $15, you are entitled to one totally exciting 2 hour group lesson per week, plus you have the option of attending competitions, including State and National Championships! Flying V Vaulters have regularly attended these competitions since the club began. They range in age from 27 to 7 years old. Our next competition is the National Championships in October.
Hunter Valley Vaulting trains at Salt Ash, please email for directions, or of you don't live in the Hunter area, we can provide contact details of other clubs all over the country!
You don't need your own horse for vaulting - we already have them! Once you've started vaulting, we're sure you'll be hooked!

There are many ways to progress in our club. You can start the same way 90% of others do - by just going to a few competitions, having fun, and getting experience. Or, you can sit for your certificates and medals. The third option is to seriously compete, and move up the levels.
The certificates and medals are a Flying V Vaulting Team innovation. They are similar to the Pony Club system. There are 5 levels, starting at Preliminary and working up to Gold. Each certificate has a number of tasks for you to work on, some practical, some theory, and some horsemanship. When you are ready, you may sit the exam, for a small fee. There is more information about these awards on the Flying V Vaulting Team site.

The normal progression for a vaulter after attaining the Gold Award, or often before, is to begin their NCAS Level 1 Coaching accreditation.

For those who wish to compete, a uniform is required. It consists of a unitard (long sleeve, long leg leotard) and vaulting shoes. Both are purchased through the club. Unitards are around $130, although they can be found cheaper, shoes are $50. Yes, we know they are expensive but unfortunately we have not been able to get them made cheaper - unless someone has a Mum who is a whizz on a sewing machine! For competition openings and waiting periods, we have a team tracksuit, and for training we wear navy blue tights or leggings, with a maroon t-shirt, which each vaulter purchases themselves (You can get them really cheap at Lowes!). We also have a clothing pool for pre-loved uniforms, to save you some money.

If you require any more information, just email , or visit the official website of Flying V Vaulting Team.
