So what is Toastmasters really like?  Here's an article written by our President, Dr. Irene Evans, about her experience with Toastmasters:

I have been a Toastmaster since May, 1978. I joined so that I could learn
how to do presentations and feel comfortable doing so. Prior to joining
Toastmasters I would tremble at the thought of doing a speech.

Being a Toastmaster has given me the opportunity to meet many wonderful
people, locally and internationally. I have attended almost all the
provincial conferences, many regional conferences and, until recently, the
stimulating, exciting international conventions.

I enjoyed serving as a District officer. Being District Governor was a
special time in my life. Visiting and working with Toastmasters around the
Province was a rewarding experience. The dedication of the creative and
talented group of volunteer officers and club leaders was inspiring. I
enjoyed the members' stories of how doors opened for them because of their Toastmaster training.

Why do I stay in Toastmasters? I enjoy meeting people and hearing their
stories. It is impressive to watch new members improve their confidence and communication skills through their participation in the Toastmaster program. Many fun-filled moments have occurred while attending club meetings. At times, after all these years, I ask myself why I am going out to yet another Toastmaster event. It is because I am willing to give my support to the members and feel energized when I come home from most events.

What better volunteer work could I do? Fun-filled exciting and interesting
stories and meeting many wonderful people--what more could I ask.

Dr. Evans led our District to Number 1 in the world in 1992.
