| Here's a very nice trout caught by a friend of mine. WTG Jeff ! I caught this Rainbow Trout using an RS2 nymph, which is what I caught most of my fish on this river on. This was taken in Deckers, Colorado, April 14, 2002. I was fishing with my grandpa and I went to fish this one hole. I caught a small stocker which was about 12" and then I caught a 15" rainbow on the very next cast. A couple casts later, I caught a nice one. I had no idea how nice though! When I saw him surface, my heart skipped a beat. I have caught a bigger one, but I couldn't get a picture of it, it measured 22". This Rainbow Trout measured 20". |

| The sun was just starting to burn off the morning fog creating a surreal mood as I walked through the towering cedars down to the lake. The cool water felt good on my feet as I slowly waded down to the a old fallen tree, the 4 wt waved methodically back and forth dropping the large nymph down beneath a outstretched branch a perfect hold for a nice bluegill. Sure enough, a hit, the rod tip slowly rose and with a little strip of the line he was on, but this was no bluegill. This fish did not move when the rod pulled, rather it just kept bending and then, he was off, the reel screamed as the fish took of for deep water, could it be? Had I finally gotten the fish I had been searching for all week? The fish that had yesterday refused or broken off every fly I had in my box? The fish started to slow down, now well into my backing and nearly across the lake. As I | ||||||||||||||||||
| begin to apply leverage to turn the fish he decides to have none of it and takes off again, this time swimming parallel to the shore. Just what I needed, for now a little bit of pressure should bring him in, he goes deep, but gives into the force and begins to swim towards shore. I have recovered most of my line at this point and the fish begins to surface, he rolls once and knows something isnt right, the reel screams again and for the second time Im into my backing Its now 30 mins. and 3 runs later the fish is fatigued as am I, I can tell this fight will end soon. The fish is a mere 12 feet away, but he wont budge, finally, he comes. There we go. The head is out of the water. Hes mine now. I slowly lead him to my feet and grasp the tail. Its done; its been over an hour since I hooked into the gentle beast. the hook pops out, and off he swims, his tail grace fully moving back and forth just braking the surface, this is what life is about, a man a rod and a fish. As the fish slowly submerges Im left sanding in the waters. Thanks for the fight, good sir, thanks for the fight. | ||||||||||||||||||
