South Fork of the South Platte Near Deckers, Colorado:
This is my favorite fishing area of all the gold medal waters i have have fished.  Although recently lots of this area was burned  by the biggest forest fire in Colorado, The Hayman Fire, i will still go back as soon as possible just to show how much i fell in love w/ this stretch of water.  This is a very good area to fish mainly in the spring, but still really good all year long.  This river comes out of the Cheeseman Resevoir a couple miles upstream.  It is loaded w/ all sorts of trout.  The normal rainbow runs anywhere from 10" to 20". In addition to the many rainbows, their main counterpart are browns. I'm not sure, but i think there are also some cutthroats in there.
Its loaded with many riffles, and deep pools.  The main pools are around the bends.  But the best fishing is downstream from the little town of Deckers.  It has a lot more big rocks which create a lot better habitat for the fish.  I have caught a 16" brown, a 20" rainbow on my first time out and a 22" rainbow on my second time out, along w/ a couple 16" rainbows that got off.  It is truly a remarkable stretch of water.
This little Stretch of water is only located about 2 hours from Denver, which makes it a popular spot to go to for lots of fisherman. But don't let this stop you from going, even on a saturday, I have always been able to find plenty of elbow room.  The best times to go are during the week when most of the fisherman are at work and leaves a lot of the river open.
