+IHELP: HISTORY
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Isengard, the name given to the ancient fortress of natural rock and weather
worn stone, lies nestled in Nan Curinir, known to humans now as the Wizard's
Vale. In the center of a giant ring of rock, not formed by human hands, lie the
soaring spires of the tower Orthanc, in which Saruman the White Wizard bides his
time. Carved beneath the tower are numerous caves and tunnels, dug out by
Saruman's legion of Orcs. These Orcs are divided into two races, the Fighting
Uruk-Hai and the slave race of common uruk. The Uruk-Hai rule and fight while
the Uruk provide cheap labor en masse. Both races are Isendrim since they live
and work in the caves and tunnels under Isengard.
The Uruk-Hai serve in factions that are divided by specialization, and are
supplied by a stout and numerous band of slave-uruk. The Uruk, a diminutive and
apish slave-race, commonly referred to as slave or 'snaga', labor round the
clock and delve ever deeper into the bowels of Isengard's dark mines. All
Isendrim follow the leader, their Warmaster, into the fray of battle, each
battle unit under the direct command of a Captain. A military structure holds
sway, pulling along on the chain that binds the orcs in their servitude to their
higher master, Sharku, Saruman.

+IHELP: NEWBIE
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Welcome to Isengard!
We're glad to have you with us. In order to make your transition into RP as
smooth as possible, your Local-Administrators (LAs) have come up with some
useful information for you, the player.
A good place to get started is by reading through the local +IHELP files. (Type
+IHELP and follow the instructions). The information there is priceless, and
should help greatly in understanding the culture, and the local commands. You
should pay special attention to the rest of the +IHELP NEWBIE files, as they
explain the basics, as well as such things as how to speak on the +com channels.
Another thing you should read is the <OOC> BEGINNER'S MANUAL, which can be found
in the SNAGA PIT inside the caves.
When out of character (OOC), you can simply go to the SNAGA PIT by typing HOME. Each character has a 'home' location set up for them automatically. We highly recommended that you wander around the caves and tunnels of Isengard OOCly, because if you get lost while wandering around OOCly, all you have to do is type home to be teleported back to the Snaga Pit. The Snaga Pit is your default home in Isengard. Be sure to note that this -won't- work when you are set IC! If you get lost ICly, then unfortunately, if no one happens to come your way, or if you can't wander your way back to known territory, you are lost!
Make sure you are familiar with the concept of In Character (IC) and Out of Character (OOC), as they are key concepts in the Role-play that takes place within Elendor.
Additional information can be found on the following Elendor Help Files:

When starting out in Isengard, you come aboard as simple grunt of the Fighting
Uruk-Hai. You occupy the lowest rung on the military ladder in Saruman's Army. Superiors will
order you around according to their whims. You will have to scrap by in order to
survive.
Sound like fun? You bet! Role Playing (RPing) the life of a grunt and learning your way around,
should be some of the most rewarding times you spend learning this game. Make
your character noticeable, and put him or her at the forefront every chance you
get. Plead, beg, and cajole anyone and everyone you can for RP. Get your name
well known, as well as lots of RP experience under your belt. Once you
understand the role of the grunt and have been RPing as a grunt for a little
while, you will then be issued the COMBAT TEST.
The COMBAT TEST leads to your next step in becoming a successful and pillaging
Uruk. In order to pass this test, you need to be familiar with the rules on
combat. Please make sure you pay special attention to HELP COMBAT, and all files
pertaining to this, as well as +IHELP COMBAT, and all the +ihelp files related
to combat. Once you have passed the written combat test and the RP-only combat
RP test, you are eligible to use Elendor's combat system. Once you receive
approval, you will go to the Combat Registration room, located off of the OOC
Complex, to register for combat and your weapon of choice. At this point it is
time to pick a company (+IHELP ORGANIZATION) and, perhaps, a profession (+IHELP
POSITIONS) for your character.
Note:
To find out who your LAs are, just type +LOCALS. This command will show you who
your LAs are, as well as the +Greeters of Isengard. An asterisk (*) by a
name means that that person is connected. Feel free to page them, since it is,
after all, their job to answer any and all of your questions.

Above all, HAVE FUN! Feel free to RP at any time! Isengard is a place for you to
enjoy, and we're glad to have you as part of our family. Once again, if you have
any questions or are unsure of anything, please feel free to contact an Isendrim
player or an LA.
The series of help files stored under +ihelp should ease you into a comfortable
understanding of Isengard. You are encouraged to read the help files carefully
in order to familiarize yourself with the culture and the MUSH. Aside from this,
feel free to ask those Isengarders who are online for help. IsenHelpers and
Local Admin are the best people to approach since it is their job to help!
Type +IWHO to see which Isengarders are currently online. Ask only those people
who have 'OOC' (meaning Out of Character) written next to their name for help.
However, if everyone is 'IC' (In Character), then you may find out if one of
them is busy or not. Often, if a player is RPing, he or she has time to answer a
quick question or two between poses.
You can speak to everyone in Isengard by making yourself heard on the culture's
+com. Type =I need help in order to say 'I need help' on the +com. Of course you
can replace 'I need help' with anything else. You can also speak to an
individual by paging them. Type p <name of person>=I need help to speak with the
named person through a private page.

Once you get the hang of these modes of communication, you may want to join the
<Orc>, <Gap>, <Baddie>, and <Public> channels.
One very strict In Character (IC) policy enforced in Isengard is that no Uruk
admits to originating from Isengard or serving Saruman while in the presence of outsiders. In fact, for
safety's sake, only mention that you are a Southern Orc, from the southern tip
of the Misty Mountains. The penalty for failing to keep quiet about your point
of origin is an immediate execution, which can be exciting, provided you aren't the one
being executed! The reason that we must be so secretive is that Saruman the
White Wizard is our master, and no one outside of Isengard knows, or even truly
suspects, that Saruman has Orcs working for him. To the outside world, Saruman
is benevolent and good, while in secret he plots and builds his army. To the
Uruk's of Isengard, Saruman is commonly known as, and referred to as Sharku.
Never use his real name, in case you are overheard.

Getting to Know Isengard
If you're reading this book, you've found the Company
Halls. You should feel free to explore other parts of the caves. You can set
this room as your home by typing @link me=here. Typing
HOME will
bring you back to your 'Home Room' from wherever you are, provided you are OOC
(Out Of Character).
When ever you decide to go exploring make sure you
set yourself OOC, type +SET OOC before going. When you set yourself IC,
type +SET IC and you will return to where you were when you last set
yourself OOC. You can pretty much go exploring where ever you want, if you get
stuck or lost just set yourself IC and start all over, but make sure you set
yourself OOC before heading out again. You can also return to your Home Room
while set OOC as explained above. If you're really lost and have no idea how to
get back all you have to do is page an LA (Local Administrator) or an Isenhelper
and they will help you find your way back. To see who these people are, just
type '+IADMIN'.
The Role of the Grunt I
A grunt must be willing to take orders from others,
but this is just one of the many things that can be Role-played. For instance,
just because you have been told to do something, doesn't mean you have to LIKE
doing it, or actually do it at all! Perhaps you'd prefer to rebel and start your
own following? Give it a try! It just might work! The most important guideline
for role-playing a grunt is to keep your options open! Pay attention! There are
many choices and all have their own rewards and consequences.
The Role of the Grunt II
Once you choose a faction, you'll start as a
position chosen by a higher-ranking Uruk Hai. There are countless chances for
not only promotion; but also demotion; and, as in any Uruk culture, death. The
point of all this is, as prior stated, KEEP YOUR OPTIONS OPEN! Who knows? You
could be the next Captain!
Getting involved in TP's (Tiny Plots,
Pre-Arranged Role Play Plots) is also important. TP's are where most of the
action is. Some are spontaneous, like a barfight. Others can be long and
well-planned out affairs. There is usually some TP going on, sometimes more than
one at the same time. TP's often give you the opportunity to Role Play with other
cultures. There's always something an extra player can add to the story, and
TP's help you get more involved with Isengard!
For more help about the
Isendrim Culture, you can consult the Isengard Help Files by typing '+IHELP',
And remember, ask on the +COM if you ever have a question!
Resources On-MUSH
There are some files in the Elendor Help System that we
recommend you read before others, these files contain information about some of
the most widely used commands. Many of these commands you may already know but
we recommend you read them again any way just be keep current. These files
are:
HELP +MAIL
Besides the six listed there are a great numbers of other common commands, but
we feel that these are ones that you should learn first. Make sure you learn how
to check BB's (Bulletin Boards) (See HELP BBOARDS) and how to write and read mail, and make sure you
know how to ask for help if you need it. All of those are covered in the files
above. And of course if you run into problems, feel perfectly free to ask any LA
or Isenhelper to assist you. You can find out who the Isenadmins are by typing
'+Iadmin'.
Resources on the Web
There are also thousands of pages
dedicated to J.R.R. Tolkien himself, and his works. You might try looking into
some of those pages for any art work, character information and history you
might not find on either of these two pages. And, of course, there are always
the books that started this all.

URUK BEGINNERS MANUAL
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Welcome to Isengard, the -best- orc culture on Elendor!
We're glad to have you. In this book you'll find some basic information about
the life here in Isengard as well as a few other things we feel a new member of
our culture should know. This book also includes a list of places where you can
find more information and help, as you will probably need it. We'll start with
the basic character cycle we use here in Isengard
Everybody in the
Isendrim culture starts off as an Uruk-Hai, a breed of Orc like non-other. They
are greater and more powerful than their ancestors, making up the bulk of
Saruman's army. The Uruk-Hai are mighty and proud, harsh and unforgiving,
intelligent and skilled in mechanical matters, and seek only conquest for their
lord. Uruk's and Snaga's are also found in Isengard's deep, dark caves. Uruk's
are the typical warrior Orc's found in Tolkien's world. Snaga are the lowest
form of Orc in Isengard, they are slaves, despised and looked down upon by all
Orc's of greater rank. There's also a race of Half-Orc's called Arauruks, but
they are Restricted Species, as they hold important IC (In Character) roles.
Okay, so you're a Grunt! What the heck does that mean?! Well,
for starters, it means you get to polish the boots, clean the latrines and yes,
scrub the caves with your toothbrush, right? WRONG! It means that you get to
play from the bottom of the ladder in the army of Sharku and work your way up.
Often, some of the best plots come from when players start as a Grunt and then
develop these ideas as they play along. Eventually, some other -Hai in a
position of power, perhaps even Ugluk himself, will notice you and give you a
promotion and you'll be set to go for the next step. For now though.... How do
grunts Role-play?
Okay, that's all well and good, but what are those options?
Well the first thing you'll need to do, most likely, is to choose a faction of Isengard.
These are found in the +IHELP files and include the scouts
(the Raven), the guards (the Bear), and the engineers (the Hammer). Take a look
at those files and decide which one best suits your personality. If you can't
find one, talk to one of the local admins (a list is shown by typing
+LOCALS
and ask for advice!
Elendor has extensive help files, which can be reached by typing 'HELP'
and 'NEWS'. There is also extensive Isengard-specific
help, which can be found under the command '+IHELP'.The Isengard Help
Files contain a number of commands that are unique to Isengard and cannot be
used anywhere else in Elendor. A list of these commands can be seen by typing '+IHELP
