Here's what happened in April!

Kleinhans...! What a day. I stayed after school because we had to be there at 5:30 anyways, so we had a party in the sm. ensm. room! =) We ordered pizza and breadsticks (penis bread according to Ben) and had it delievered! We then drew things on the board! >;) We also had 2 bread sticks left over, so we went to Mrs. Cohen's room to see if she wanted them! Sadly, she did not. Soon enough, the bands met and collected themselves in the band room, and we left for Kleinhans! Luckily, our bus was somewhat quiet, and I relaxed, knowing I had an evil piccolo solo! Right away, the concert band members had to unload so they would have enough time to warm up. On stage, Mr. Stroth had his little baby with him while he was tuning them! It was soo cute! Concert band played well, even though people clapped between movements! THAT MAKES ME SOOOOOO ANGRY!!!!!!!!!!!! They received a standing ovation also! I bet Stroth was proud. Next, the Chorale performed. They sang the "Missa Brevis" that Mr. Vehar's wife wrote. Again, the audience started to clap between the movements...but Mr. Vehar tried to stop then by shaking his hand. He slumped a little bit, and I could imagine the look on his face. Katie A. sang marvolously in her solos...you could actually hear her singing, despite the big hall we were in. Later on, she and Mike and Phil (who bears an uncanny resemblance to Drew) sang with the symphonic band's performance of "West Side Story". They sang with microphones....don't worry! =) After that song, the wind ensemble had to go back stage and warm up. We warmed up during the intermission also, and I was suprised my piccolo was sounding very nice!!! =D The first song was "Rhapsody in Blue" by George Gershwin. One of the best songs we ever wrote! =D Ben was AMAZING at piano...the band, however...could have been better. =/ Next we performed the Tango. That went well too; the flutes really blended with the soprano sax in the beginning! When I was playing, it made me happy =). After that, it was go time. Lauren played great solos on "Leaves are Falling"...and I was shaking I was so nervous all during the first section of the piece. But then as the measures counted down to my solo with one of the trumpets, I eased up more. But something went wrong with the solo...I couldn't tell which one of us screwed it up; we were both off. Speaking of being off, Brad and his saxophone did something weird during an oboe solo....but I suppose it didn't sound THAT bad, because Benson does write some strange chords. Then, was the moment you'd all been wating for....MY EVIL PICCOLO SOLO!!!!! I don't really know how I did, because I just played it. I didn't think, I just played it. I took a lot of breaths, but that was okey, because the soloist in the recording took many breaths as well. From then on, the other little "solos" went alright. The trumpet part at the end went better than what I thought it would. They didn't crack as many notes in rehearsal, I was proud of them. The Marsch started great...I'm pretty sure they played in tune. I don't have much more of a comment on the Marsch, but that's not because we played it badly. I just don't have anything else to say. After the concert, I was cleaning my piccolo and somehow my cleaning rod got stuck in the body of my piccolo! I was almost crying! Ashley tried to get it out, but it was of no use. When I got home, though, my daddy fixed it and it's recovering quite nicely. =)

D is ill! I felt horrible when I woke up today, so I fell asleep, which means I missed school for the first time in about 6 years! I slept and slept and slept!! After awhile, I began to feel better, but I didn't think that it was worth it to go to school for 2 periods then come back. =) I'm pretty sure we had orchestra today, so I don't think I missed much in band. Tomorrow, though, I will be bright and perky and bandish! =)

3 points!!! Just THREE measley little points and I would have made it!! Just the 2 minutes I spent sightreading in my All-State audition RUINED the whole thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It pissed me off beyond belief!!!! I sounded great on my solo because the room had an echoish ring to it, and I remembered that Gb was F#!! =) WHY WHY WHY did I screw it up when it was so easy?!?!!! I know why!! The tempo was too fast! I heard it in my head, but my fingers were too slow!!!! I knew I shold have cut my nails before I went!!!! Ugh! Grumble!!
