My Experiment
As I have mentioned, not too long ago as part of a school project I had ten pekin cross ducklings come to stay at my house. They stayed for eight weeks in total although the experiment only went for six. This page will take you through alot of last minute problems that I encounterd, when ten ducklings invaded our "dog and cat" lifestyle.
Before I start, I did prepare for this project, no matter how unorthodox some situations may seem. Just goes to show always expect the unexpected! I live in the Southern Hemisphere, so when it's June July time it's cooler and winter out here. I got my ducklings on May 21st, in Autumn. I knew before hand they were going to stay in my garage, so it was a good time to get them. Our winter's arn't very cold, it only rains somewhat more than usual, there's no frost or anything. Summer, in my garage wouldn't of been a good idea, temperatures reach 100oF easily and their lives would have been most uncomfortable. Spring was probably the excellent choice, but my project would have been badly over-due. So Autumn, probably the equivalent of an English summer was the kind of climate my ducklings were bought in.
So... What is this project of yours??
I had to do an experiment, anything of my choice as long as it compared the differences between something and was useful. I decided I'd get my hands on ten "meat" (designed for produce) ducklings. They were pekin cross. I'd then feed half on commercial duck food for six weeks, the other half I'd feed on an "Organic" substitute. Now I'm not correct when I say "Organic". If these ducks were truely fed on an organic substitute, then they'd of eaten fresh veges and plants grown in a totally organic environment and also collected in an environmentaly friendly way. What I did, was use easily acessible food products to substitute their diet. Nevertheless I do refer to them as the "Organic ducklings". That's just me, being weird.
