Guild Activities

Optional Blocks
Block raffles are held each month. At the beginning of the member year, a booklet of optional block patterns is given out. A packet that contains additional fabrics for the optional block is available for a nominal fee. You make your block for the designated month and bring it to next meeting. Your name goes into a basket. If your name is pulled from the basket, you win all the blocks for that month.

Raffle Basket
At each monthly meeting, a lucky person wins a $50 raffle basket of fabric with books or patterns from a local quilt shop. Tickets are $1.00 per chance.

Applique Anonomous (AA) Support Group
AA is moving its location! As of February 24, 2005, AA will meet in the meeting rooms at the Jamestown Bluffs Branch of the St. Louis County Library (4153 N. Hwy 67 just north of the intersection of Old Halls Ferry and Lindbergh). AA meets on the 2nd, 4th, and 5th Thursdays of each month from 6:30 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. There are tables available for hand work (applique, cutting, basting, etc.), and the lighting is very good. This is also a great venue to seek input on whatever project has you stumped. Note that no food or drink is allowed in the library, and when we leave, we need to be careful to look for any stray pins or scraps. In case of inclement weather, phone the Jamestown Bluffs Branch (314) 741-6800 to check that they are open. For more information, contact Theresa Prosser.

Remember, every Thursday night could be a quilt night!

Retreat
Each winter, the Flower Valley Quilt Guild holds a members retreat weekend at the Sisters of Pallotine Renewal Center. The retreat lasts from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon. Information and reservation forms are published in the newsletter. Various projects and lectures are offered along with lots of fun and cookie breaks. Sleeping is optional.

First Thursday
On the first Thursday of the month starting at 7:00 P.M., members get together for an informal gathering held in a member's home. A sign-up sheet for hostesses is available at the guild meeting. This is primarily a social meeting-lots of free quilting advice, but little stitching! This is a great way to get to know other quilters.

Charity Quilts
Our guild is very active in making and giving away quilts to special groups. Usually one meeting per year is dedicated to making or finishing charity quilts that members have been working on.

Unfinished Objects (UFO) Days

Gregory and Conney Crook from Premier Sewing & Vacuum have graciously offered us free space in their classroom for regularly scheduled UFO Days. We will meet on the 4th Saturday of each month (March through June) from 1:00-5:00 P.M. (If there is sufficient interest, we can continue this throughout the year!) There is room for 8-12 people to bring their sewing machines or do handwork of their choice. Irons, ironing boards, and cutting boards are provided. There is even a large table if you need to baste a quilt! Please take advantage of this opportunity. Premier Sewing is located at 7700 N Lindbergh Blvd # B, just ½ mile north of the 270 exit. Their phone number is (314) 839-4739.

Day Quilters
Naomi House has been a gracious host to Flower Valley's Applique Anonomous for the last few years. But with the relocation of AA, there is an opening to use this great space for another purpose. Marge Albers is very interested in identifying other guild members who would be interested in quilting on a regular basis during the daytime. The Media Room at Naomi House has adequate space for 8-15 people for hand sewing. Tuesdays and Thursdays would work best for the Naomi House schedule. The time of day (morning, afternoon, all day), frequency (weekly, monthly), etc. would be up to the interested individuals to decide. Naomi House is centrally located at 3393 McKelvey Road (off St. Charles Rock Road and 270). If you are free during the daytime, don't miss out on this great chance to quilt and bond with your fellow guild members. If you are interested, phone Marge Albers.
