Nautical Toy & Motor Meet
Sand Lake, Orlando
September 19, 2009

A warm, sunny day and very calm lake greeted 45 members and guests as they arrived to attend this popular end of summer meet. Our host, Hank Wendt greeted everyone with danish and coffee to start the day. The setting for this meet is very private with ample room for everyone to park and launch their boats. The air-conditioned clubhouse provided plenty of space for the toy displays and seating for those who wanted to eat inside.

Steve Wood, Jeff Rieth, Philip & Marcia Walker, Bill Humphries, Shane Mackey, Tom Goepfrich, Jim Dunn, Harry Brown, Joe Fisher, Bob Parkinson, Kirk Ball, Gary Krick, as well as Dick Messineo with a beautiful 13’ Boston Whaler and Kim Burrows in his Cypress Gardens Clown 8’ Flivver boat, all enjoyed several hours on the water.  Joe Fisher recently finished the varnished wooden box he added to his boat trailer and Marcia & Philip Walker were sporting new red paddles to match the red on their very fast motor.  

Dave Dolive, Hank Wendt and Joel Fowler displayed boats and motors on land. 

Mary Jane Geary, assisted by Logan and Tyler, and Jeff Rieth walked the park selling 50/50 tickets.

Rick Geary, Logan Geary, Tyler Geary and Rick Stam displayed toy boats and motors.

By noon, Hank was busy at the grill cooking hot dogs, brats and sausages with all the trimmings.  Margaret Wendt set up a delicious array of lasagna, salad, baked beans, potato salad, chips, brownies and cookies.   There were many who went back for seconds.  

The 50/50 ticket was drawn by Logan Geary and Mary Jane Geary was holding the winning $70 ticket.   Congratulations Mary Jane!

It was great to see members Mitch and Calvin Chin from Jacksonville and Bart and Sherry Wynn who flew in from Georgia just for the day.    National member Oz Keagy also was in attendance.

Special thanks to Steve Wood for taking the time away from boating to judge.  Steve commented that every boat winning an award was in the water…perhaps a first in a long time.   Also thanks to our tireless photographer Garry Spencer and to Joel Fowler for supplying clean rags/towels for the members.

Kudos to Hank and Margaret Wendt for again making this a special day for everyone!
