Recreation in Ramea

The people of this small island community have many different recreational options available to them all year round. Located at the "back of the island" is the towns outdoor swimming pool, which is open from the first of July to mid to late August. The pool is a good facility, which has a deep end (8ft) and a shallow end (1-4ft), two changing rooms, lots of water toys, they have a qualified life guard on duty at all times, and summer employment workers that run the facility.

There is also a Hockey rink, that is used all year round. In the winter the rink has it's obvious events. There is hockey played every day that the ice is good, and their is even broom ball for the ladies in the evenings. The rink has a schedule done up to accommodate those who just want to enjoy a general skate, and for those who wish to rent the rink after hours. As for the rest of the year the rink probably gets used even more than in the winter. Down to one end there are two basketball nets that seem to be always in use. In the center there is a volleyball court drawn out, where people set up the poles to play volleyball, or if they wish to play tennis just move the net down. In the summer the rink is still available for rent at night for people who want to have a good game of ball hockey. The rink also plays a hosting role to Ramea's annual Rock Island Music Festival that is held every summer for one weekend in August. Local bands and bands from elsewhere come to Ramea for this event, and given the smooth concrete floor makes it ideal to hold dances, and other events during the festival.

Right next to the rink is the baseball field. The field is completely gravel and not the ideal playing field for much, but residents use it, and they use it well. During the summer every night it is not strange to see a group of people on the field having a game of soft-ball, or baseball and playing until dark. But baseball is not the only game that is played on the field, in all the seasons people enjoy to have a good game of football. In the winter, when their is a foot of snow on the ground it's tackle, but in the summer because of the harsh surface it's just touch football.

For the children in Ramea their is a playground that is right next to the ball field. It is a modern playground with swings, slides, and even an obstacle course. Kids are always making good use of the facilities.

St. Boniface All Grade School is used all year round for recreational activities. The school gym is a brand new facility, that can easily hold a very large group of people. The gym has state of the art equipment that allows residents to pretty much play what ever game they can think of. Volleyball is held a couple of times every week, and other sports are often offered to the people of Ramea.

The islands beautiful scenery offers people the choice to walk around the 1.5 mile long island on the North East Cove walking trail. This trail was built 3 years ago to give residents and visitors the opportunity to appreciate the beauties of Ramea as they get a bit of exercise.
