In the colonies of America, love had little or no importance in marriage. Love was saved for reasons other then the marriage contract. Marriages were only done to recieve heirs to buisiness, achieve propeties, and other buisiness related reasons. But the children born poor had an easier time choosing mates. Money had nothing to do with it and love can be considered a reason for selecting.

In marriage both male and female have a role to play. Males specialize in war, politics, and buisiness. Females had no property ownership, but kept everything running in the household. They cared for the children and did all household chores. If one mate dies, there is little or no mourning. The survivor may remarry soon after.

Females may marry at the early age of fourteen.

Wealthy family arrange their child's marriage. A young man didn't just approach a random girl. Marriage can't be done without the parents permission. Sons must ask their father first before hitting it off with a local girl.

Weddings were typical. It took place in a church, with lots of dancing and then a visit to the young bride's home.
