Flint Tennis
 Club History
In 1922, six clay tennis courts were built at their present location in Kellar Park.  These courts were the center of tennis activity in Flint.  The courts were maintained by the City of Flint Department of Parks and Recreation.
In 1933, a group of avid tennis players decided that Flint needed a tennis organization.  This group held a short meeting at the tennis courts and this was the beginning of the Flint Tennis Club.  The club handled all the tournaments in Flint, including the annual Flint Novice tournament that was very popular in those years.

The Flint Tennis Club (FTC) maintains the oldest ongoing clay courts in Michigan.  The membership consists of 120 members today.
The mid 60's presented a number of problems.  No money was provided for capital improvements.  As a result, the clubhouse and the courts were in poor condition.  Subsequently the club members slowly began the restoration process.  In 1986, the courts were renovated and improvements were made to the clubhouse.
In order to maintain minimum membership fees, members still contribute time  and talent to club organization, committees, club and courts maintenance.  The club facilities include lockers and showers and minimum but adequate kitchen facilities for picnic style dinners.
