The Korean Peninsula is situated in the northeast part of the Asian continent, between the 33 and 43 degrees North of Latitude and 124 and 132 degrees East of Longitude. The standard meridian for the peninsula is the 135th, nine hours advanced to GMT. The rivers Amnokkang and Tuman-gang are the northern borders with China and Russia, while Japan is situated across the other side of the East Sea. Since 1945, as a result of the Cold War, the peninsula has been divided across the 38th paralel, into "capitalistic" Republic of Korea or South Korea, and "comunist" Democratic People's Republic of Korea, more well know as North Korea. |
