Turtlehead

Chelone glabra

This speciman was a bare root plant from Prairie Moon Nursery, planted into our prairie swale area. This photo was taken in the early autumn of its second year in our prairie. The Turtlehead likes wet areas and is so named because of the shape of its blossoms. Our Chelone began to bloom in late summer.
