Rough Blazing Star

Liatris aspera

They really should not have named this plant the Rough Blazing Star. There is nothing rough or weed-like about it. Before the flowers open, this unusual plant has tight greenish buds all the way up its stalk. We first discovered the Rough Blazing Star at a nearby prairie area in Minneopa State Park. Butterflies love all Blazing Stars. Our planting also includes the Prairie Blazing Star and the Dotted Blazing Star.
