The Obedient Plant loves wet prairies. We included this species in the swale seed mix and also started seeds indoors in 2004. The Obedient Plant is beautiful, but be careful where you plant it! In 2003 we grew a Western Obedient Plant (closely related) indoors and planted it into our Toy Prairie--a 6' x 6' prairie planting on our lawn. In early 2004, we discovered this was a stupid thing to do. The Western Obedient plant, like all Obedient Plants, spreads by rhizomes, and ours sent up shoots, challenging every other prairie plant in the garden. Give this plant its own little area if using it in a garden setting.
