Bottlebrush Grass

Hystrix patula

Aptly named Bottlebrush Grass likes woodlands and savannas. We scattered a little seed where our prairie meets a woodland. We had previously noted it along a former railroad right-of-way in the woodlands a mile from our home. Bottlebrush Grass is classified as a cool season grass. It will grow to about 3 feet in height. While it appears delicate, ours thrived in disturbed areas of almost pure clay.
