LAV-62A1
LAV-62A1

Building on the design of the LARS, M344 ADV, and the MLCV, MOWAG expands the line with it's LAV-62 combat vehicle. Using the same chassis, the LAV-62 is designed again for rapid deployment units requiring mobile firepower. The layout is similiar, with the driver on the right, and the commander/gunner on the left side when looking forward. Each person has Crash Cages as standard, providing superior crash protection. NBC protection is offered with the use of cabin overpressurization, with each crewmember having 10 hours life support. The vehicle is fully rigged, and features composites, combined with thermal baffles to reduce the overall signature of the vehicle. EW protection is afforded by Phillips 780 ECM and 788 ECCM systems to provide protection and defense. Mounted in front of the turret is the Ferranti PG889 countermeasures dispenser system. Upon sensing that the vehicle is being targeted, either by radar or laser systems, the system will launch the appropriate cartridges, chaff for radar, and smoke for lasers. Two systems are mounted, each with 17 tubes for a total of 34 tubes. Each tube has it's own reload, and the reloads are below the launchers in bins to effect reloading. It takes a complex action to reload each tube, and reloading the whole system requires ten minutes. This system can fire up to the firer's Quickness and is a Free Action when rigged. For non-rigged characters, it requires a Simple Action to fire. However, it is preffered to save such a system, as most often, quick reloads other than what's carried is not available in an extended combat scenario.
The LAV-62 mounts the highly reliable Vigilant Rotary Autocannon in an anti-aircraft capable mount. This is however the only system that is designed to engage airborne targets on this vehicle. It is fed from a 500 round belt. Mounted to the right of the autocannon is a launcher pedastel for eight Saeder-Krupp T-90 hyper-velocity missiles. These can elevate per standard turrets, and depress independently of the main gun. Mounted behind the gun is a coaxial Medium Machine Gun. This elevates and depresses along with the main gun, but is seperate for space reasons. It fires from an 800 round belt. One system that is unique is the Arena IV CIWS mounted on the left side of the turret. It is totally independant, and can operate on it's own. It has been modified to allow some features to be added. The first modification is the collapsible radar dome, which allows it to fold to allow sufficient headway in case the carrying aircraft's roof is too small. This allows it to fit in otherwise small quarters with ease. The other modification allows the weapon to be raised over the turret itself, allowing the full 360º coverage it was designed for. The system can still operate while "hull down" on the main turret, but with less effectiveness, only covering the left side of the turret. A fire interrupt circuit is added to prevent the weapon from damaging any main turret systems. The main sensor cluster is mounted right by it, and does provide a somewhat limited view. Engineers solved the problem with a sensor cluster on the right side to cover the sensor gap in the turret. This vehicle comes equipped with the Battletac FDDM system as standard.
The Special Security Group version, the LAV-62A1, differs in mounting the M263 minigun that replaces the coaxial MMG. It is fed from an 800 round drum.
