Comments: Cute enough. About two documentarians filming a tough-luck private detective. Soon they get involved in one of his murder mystery cases. A comedy. Well-acted, and decently written, although it works better as a spoof than as a murder mystery. John is only in it for about five minutes half-way through as the video repair man to whom the two movie-makers bring their camera. He gets to show off his talent for imitating broken camera noises, and a squealing pig(!). Worth it for that alone, I think.
Comments: A very good movie. For those who have been living in a cave, this movie is the true story of a fishing boat that got caught in the midst of umm, well, the perfect storm. Action-packed for those who like that sort of thing. John plays Mike "Bugsy" Moran, one of the fishermen on the boat. The story doesn't focus on his character all that much, but he is in the entire movie. And the parts that do focus on his character are very sweet. Really, I fell in love with this guy. All the more bittersweet knowing its all based on real people.
Comments: For those disbelievers out there - those who thought that a movie starring Keanu Reeves and a bunch of Little Leaguers would be about as entertaining as having your cheeks stretched by aliens - I got news for you - this movie ain't half-bad. Actually, it's rather good. The story - Keanu is a compulsive gambler/ticket scalper forced to coach an inner-city baseball team. John plays his best friend, Ticky, fellow ticket scalper. Of course, the kids show Keanu the real meaning of life and enable him to stop his downward spiral of self-destruction. That goes without saying. But the execution of said cliche is rather entertaining, and, dare I say it, moving. John serves as the comic relief, and as always, I wish he was in it a bit more than he is. But it's a small complaint. His character is very endearing, I thought. All in all, I recommend this movie. Be warned, it's a definite tearjerker, and not just in the sappy "we all learn to love one another, ain't that sweet" way. Trust me, it's no "The Bad News Bears".

Comments: Good, creepy fun with an ending that even I didn't see coming. Several strangers are stranded in a desolate hotel during a rain storm, when, one by one, they start to die. John plays Larry, the hotel owner. Again, he plays the comic relief, but there is also more to this character. I must say, and this is the god's honest truth, his performance got more reaction from the audience than anyone else did. By far. And I mean that in the best way possible. He has excellent chemistry with his costars, especially John Cusack and Amanda Peet. I don't want to say too much about this movie, so as not to give anything away, but I definitely recommend it. Decent size, fun role for John, in a movie that's overall quite enjoyable.
