In 1979 George Lucas and Steven Spielberg were in the process of developing the first of their Indiana Jones movies. Towards the end of the movie a Flying Wing is featured which will transport the Ark to Hitler.
The dream of an all-wing airplane (which could theoretically reduce drag and make a craft more aerodynamic) is as old as aviation. For Raiders of the Lost Ark, Ron Cobb designed a prototype Flying Wing that, with its end wing flaps tilted downward, was closer to the look of a U.S. prototype developed in the 1940s.
