To fully appreciate Five Quid Short you must first understand the music they play. Ska is no ordinary music. Originating from the Jamaican dance music that swept through the easy going homeland in the early 1960s, 3rd wave ska, combined with melodic punk riffs, causes the listener to have an irresistible, orgasmic outburst of fun filled frenzy dancing - commonly known as skanking. For those of you common with this feeling...do not fight the force. For those of you who have only recently encountered this sensation...you have just experienced your first skankism. Finally, for those of you who do not feel the urge to skank when hearing ska...immediately visit your nearest GP.
Skanking is no common dance, it is an art form. The most common definition comes from legendary ska musician Jeremy D. Mushlin who quoted
"It is not like jamming your elbow to your opposite knee back and forth, but sort of like the milk-the-cow, do-the-monkey sort of thing".
Yet to be truthful, skanking cannot be defined because it is an individual expression for the love of ska. Each person's skank is different. For one it may be frantically waving the arms and legs where as for another it may be be doing a disabled sprink on the spot. The only thing certain is that skanking does not, in anyway shape or form, involve moshing! If you have problems trying to come to gripes with the idea of skanking just remember....
