Conceptual/Holistic Processing (right-brain)- looking at the big picture, overall patterns and underlying concepts for use in higher-order thinking, creating and reasoning.

Conceptual/Holistic processing is memory for general themes and ideas; reasoning; awareness; general knowledge; inferential thinking; estimation; creativity; reading comprehension; use of context; rhythm; music and art.

Difficuties include: understanding irony, inferences, sarcasm; story problems; generalizing to new situations; understanding humor; creative writing; global/general awareness; and attention-may focus too much on a specific area.
Processing Speed - refers to how fast information travels through the brain.  All LD students have trouble with processing speed when trying to process information through their weaker processing channel.  In general LD students have trouble keeping up with the class.

LD students have difficulty with time pressures.  They delay in responding; slow speech; always a step behind; difficulty in staying focus while reading.
Attentional Skills - refers to how well a student stays focused on tasks and activities.

Students with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) have close to the same difficuties as a LD students with any of the processing weaknesses.
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) - Students with ADHD usually experience significant difficulty with writing in general.  They have difficulty staying focus, organizing and sequencing.  In addition, students are often processing information at a very rapid rate and simply don't have the fine-motor skills to keep up.
Dysgraphia - Difficulty expressing thoughts in writing. Another words extremely poor handwriting.  This is pretty common with LD student.  If there is signs of Dysgraphia, but no signs of LD, most schools don't even recognize this as LD for special education.

Not to be confused with Dyslexia.
Dyslexia - the most common which the general public hears, but also the most misunderstood, with a great deal of confusion and misinformation.  It means difficulty understanding written words.
