Pisces

Capable to excite, to attract, and even intimidating the most expert fisherman, the trairoes (hoplias lacerdae) weight over twenty kilos and are the great star of the place. Animal of prehistoric aspect and voracious instinct, they can be found in the entrances of stalls, ebb tides  and entrances of small rivers.

From June, in the lowest level of the river, fling the baits is enough to get ready for a combat that will demand expertise and a lot of patience  to be crowned with success. In the fishing with natural baits, pieces of fish are very efficient, since flung in the extreme bottom point of the line that divides the water of the river with their marginal courses.

In the case of lures, floating models are extremely efficient, above all, the sticks and poppers. There is such abundance of this specie, that is very common, in an only period of the day, to hook more than 10 fishes.

For a full success of this fishery, it is convenient to use lines of good quality, with at least 0,40 millimeters of diameter; leader of flexible steel with 20 centimeters of length and resistance around 50 pounds and, when opting for the use lures, garatéias (triple hooks) heavy  reinforced. To avoid accidents with their sharp teeth, it is also advisable the use of a contention pliers or grip type with long cable. 

The Tucunares (Peacock Bass) - Paca and the Blue - prefer the fast waters, not being rare to hook fishes of expressive size in the cascades that are formed around clubs, stones and other structures. Related to lures, they do not demonstrate preference capable to a model stands out on the others. The running floating ones are more efficient, but the floating models compensate the acting difference providing not only the visualization of the attack, as well as spectacular blowouts.
