Tomorrow Never Dies
directed by Roger Spottiswoode

What can I say? The words, "My name is Bond. James Bond," is enough to get the juices going.

This is Brosnan's second outing as Bond and it is clear that he is going to fit the role very well. It helps that the movie, which features the generic Bond-madman trying to take over the world (or rather, the world's media in this case), features a lot of Bond-type humour (watch out for Moneypenny's lines) which was missing from some of the more recent Bond films.

Okay, lets get the plot over and done with. Elliot Carver (Jonathan Pryce) wants a monopoly on the media market. To get this, he engineers a 'situation' between the Chinese and British governments, which could develop into a war within 48 hours. Of course, he will get exclusive coverage of the entire confrontation. Bond, with the help of Wai Lin (later revealed to be a operative from the Chinese Government and played by Michelle Yeoh), have to find out what Carver plans and stop him (which, of course we all know, he will do).

This is a Bond movie, so you're sure to get two other elements: Bond girls and Bond technology. Other than Wai Lin, Carver's wife, Paris (Terri Hatcher), plays a minor role as well as another involved in a 'language lesson' (you'll know what I mean when you see it).

Bond technology, supplied by Q, comes in the form of a mobile phone and a remote-controlled car with all the usual Bond weapons supplied (which, of course, will get destroyed soon enough). One thing I found interesting was that Wai Lin also has her set of 'gadgets' and it was fun to see Bond getting thrown off to see she has more 'toys' than he!

There are some sticking points to the story that jarred me, like the scene where Bond goes to receive a phone call. Why does he need to do that when he has a mobile phone?

On the whole, one of the better made Bond movie and shows that Bond still has a long life to leave with Brosnan at the helm.
