Two young hearts, carefree and happy, so full of dreams,
so drawn to each other:
Dating, phone calls, passing notes in the hall.

Ballgames, sock hops, having fun.
Formal dances, pretty dresses, and corsages.
Sled riding, snuggling to keep warm,
  Shy hugs and kisses.

These two free spirits become one,
locking their hearts forever together,
as they spend their
hours sharing their love, dreaming, planning of:
  A job and a home
A child, maybe two, to love and cherish
A life forever together,  many years to spend with each other
And how happy they will be.

But one must move away, or so her parents say,
and both hearts break as they wonder:
Why can't the world see that our hearts are together as one?
Why must we part when together is where we belong?
Why must we part when our love is so true?
And why is our love so unimportant to the world?

Now a baby is on the way; surely
the world will
see the depth of their love:
  A baby so wanted.
A baby to treasure, cherish and hold.
  A baby so loved.
A baby to complete their love.
And now the world would surely see the depth of  their love.

Oh, no! This cannot be and they wonder:
Why can't they see our love?
How could they be so cruel!
Why are we treated like children with no minds of our own?
How can they allow our hearts to break?
And how could our love have gone so astray?

The young man is told to go away and never return
and the girl is sent far from home,
alone with her pain:
No family or friends to offer their support.
No loved one at her side to lessen the stress.
No dreams of a future together forever.
No one to hold her during long, lonely nights.
And she wonders if he thinks of her.

As her belly swells with the child of their love, she wonders:
How will I possibly give up this precious child?
How will I bear this pain in my heart?
How can my life go on without my love and my child?
How can I bear this pain in my heart!!!!
and she wonders if he thinks of her.

As she lies alone in the dark of the night, feeling t
he kicking of their unborn child,  she rubs
her swollen belly and tells the child:
Of the love of the young man.
Of their love for this unborn child.
Of their one time dreams, their hopes and their plans.
And she wonders if he thinks of her.

Fall comes and with it the memories of the year
that has just passed:
The first formal dance they attended--how they danced the night away!
Of their walks in the autumn leaves.
  Of their love.
And she wonders if he thinks of her.

Winter arrives, but not with the snow like at home, and she thinks of:
sled riding and snuggling to keep warm.
The Christmas dance and the dress that she wore.
The pearls he so sweetly gave to her.
The impending birth of their child.
And she wonders if he thinks of her.

Pain has filled her heart for so long, but now pain is
wracking her body and as she
waits alone in the dark for her time, she knows:
No physical pain is as great as the pain in her heart.
That soon their child will be gone to a new home.
That she will never be the same, carefree young girl again.
That she is so lonely and heartbroken.
And she wonders if he thinks for her.

In the early morning light a baby girl is born.
Marta Kay, a name after her parents who wanted her so.
So pink and perfect, ten fingers and ten toes,
With big dark eyes like her mother
and a pug nose like ther father.
And dark hair like both.
And she wonders if he thinks of them.

Each day the young mother prays to God:
If this must be, make sure she has a good home.
Please let them love her as their own.
Make sure she knows she is loved by two hearts so far way.
Protect her as she goes.
And she wonders if he thinks of them.

And then the day arrives for her baby to leave.
Her heart feels like it will explode
with the pain and as the tears fall she:
Dresses her baby in a pink, frilly dress
Then sits in the rocker to hold and caress.
And promises her child she will always be remembered and loved
Then she prays once again to God above
and she wonders if he thinks of them and of their love.

Young love, first love, and now it is done,
three lives gone their seperate ways,
never a family to be.
